When a poet dies, it's like the similes have shattered—
stabshards through the hearts of foglost songbirds.
Their eyes go blank
(verse)
their pulse goes
(prose)
and those who knew them tremble with remembrance
tremble with Decemberance—
Cold. Cold. Cold.
Ink to ashes—words to earth—caesura—
rest is certain
6 metered feet beneath the frosted lawn,
above the bugsheds.
A poet dies, and metaphors are scores of black-clad mourners,
enamored with the corpse's formless corners.
