"~getting away with everything" live book release party
On October 22, 2021, four Unlikely poets (Christopher Shipman, Laura Mattingly, Christopher Romaguera, and Charles Claudel Garrett I) assembled at Bar Redux in New Orleans to celebrate the release of ~getting away with everything, a book of poems by Vincent A. Cellucci and Christopher Shipman. There was also a virtual release party.
Christopher Shipman (he/him) lives on Eno, Sappony, & Shakori land in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he teaches literature and creative writing at New Garden Friends School & plays drums in The Goodbye Horses. Recent work appears or is forthcoming in Denver Quarterly, Iron Horse Literary Review, Fence, Pedestal, Poetry Magazine, Rattle (online), & elsewhere. His experimental play Metaphysique D’ Ephemera has been staged at four universities. Laura Mattingly is a second generation Lithuanian American, and a third generation Irish American, who grew up eating burritos, listening to Mariachi music and Radiohead in southern CA, floated down the Missouri and Mississippi rivers to New Orleans on a homemade raft and now studies mental health counseling at Loyola University (because she's just crazy enough for the job). She studied writing at University of California, Santa Cruz, and University of New Orleans. She has poems in Big Bridge New Orleans, New Laurel Review, and Maple Leaf Rag. Her "Book of Incorporation" was published by Language Foundry in 2012.
Christopher Louis Romaguera is a Cuban-American writer born in Hialeah, Florida and raised in Miami, Florida. He has lived in Oakland, California and New Orleans, LA, the latter of which he has lived for the majority of his time since 2011. His publications include The Daily Beast, Curbed National, PANK Magazine, New Orleans Review, Santa Fe Writers Project, Louisiana Literature, GrubWrites, and the Peauxdunque Review. He has been a beat reporter for NOLA Defender, writing stories about protests, the activist movement, and stories involving Latinx peoples within New Orleans. He is a monthly columnist for Ploughshares. He is currently the Fiction Editor at The New Southern Fugitives.
Charles Claudel Garrett I is an artist based out of Lafayette, Louisiana. He is widely published and has performed in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. He is finishing his three debut works: a collection of poetry, a novel, and a screenplay. He is the recipient of the New Orleans Take Notice Fund and is playing Christian “Copper” Laurent in the Cites des Arts adaptation of Ernest Gaines's short story, “Bloodlines.” When he is not writing or performing, he is spending his time writing copy for marketing teams, across a variety of industries and companies.
