Abortion

I failed -
I had one single moment in time
Like the shadow before a storm
Silent and smells electric -
That gives you one illusion
Like it could pass you by.

I watch in awe at its threshold
It hits some prematurely
Letting me wonder if I'm next -
Like discovering an old High School friend
In a fatal car wreck.

I failed to save it
Staying motionless in the waiting room
Until screams rang out,
And now I'm left to pose an example
Like a letter in the mail
Consoling over a death in the family.
