Autumn's Shroud

Autumn's shroud is a blanket of leaves
deep calabash pockets 
filled with jasmine, myrrh, millennial curses,
secret prayers, love's last poems,
sacred soil. . .

Autumn's shroud of electric, exploding mauve
and cinnamon
Harvest breath and bittersweet
open-rooved tabernacles where we sleep
under fullmo0n-coins for empty eyes

Autumn's shroud is a Joseph's coat
strung up a flag pole
Is it good to have a land worth dying for?
