She needs to be
on suburban street
within the hour
but without transportation
or local bus service,
she'll be late unless
seeking a ride
from strangers, passing.

Thumb out, vehicle stopping.
Woman driving, man smiling.

Seated between.
How did that happen?
Scared, shaking.
Four to five miles
or detour,
never to arrive
at destination.

The man,
looking at her.
One more mile.

One more mile!
