There are two ways to write poetry:
You can move the pen
or you can let the pen move you

It's not as romantic as it sounds

a would-be conduit
for the best and worst your soul has to offer

Frankly, that shit gets old

Especially if you consider the possibility
that the alternative  has merit

After all, do I not have things to say
that needn't be wrestled from my heart
like a badly constipated shit?

I've been writing poetry
with the hope of tapping
something older than I am

but I'm beginning to think
that I'll soon be old enough
