three poems by John Bryan

Peculiar

So strange it seemed a lie:

I'd seen many of the same things I've seen before.
Suddenly, the previous reader wasn't there.
Sounds good to me, I said.
I'd walk down the stream, look around, and take a deep breath.

I'm cold, staring at the continuation we had to feel through yesterday.
( I'd seen something really weird ).
The continuation of our species matters more than I can imagine.
It is the single most important thing we can do.
There were many examples of animals all around.

Just tell me what you think, even if I won't hear.
Suddenly, the previous reader wasn't there.
A house full of condiments and no food.
I don't know how he found that place.

Thick walls are important.
I'd seen many of the same things I've seen before.
That could well be the answer.
I'd walk down to the stream, look around, and take a deep breath.
Don't do that, you, my present tense reader, pointed out.
For I have writ it.

My heart beats as fast as
A gaseous giant's four day orbit
Around a sun named after numbers.

Mrs. Palmer

Her five daughters
Drew a smile there
With emission
The mouther of pearl
Rubbed away 'til a blister
All wisdom is distilled
Reduces my stark and ravings
To simple and curts
Is all identities or none
Into days the smile a discourtesy
Spews life on it

Bon Voyeur

sometimes days adore
but fugly people don't always
see my charming self in x - ray

today, kissed my mirror passionately
it felt glassy
without the world's watercolours staining it

i wanted to see the eye that saw

cracking my knuckles i stretch fingers
squiddish tentacles over my beautiful face, smothering
all trappings, grandiose, from a perfect day

cable still attached i pull out
to look upon the other
elegant plop, a delightful conversation piece
accompanying a humming, vibrating view

lashings
of feedback white noise
the antennae bumped
eyes fill with static

anti matter,
intimate friend
of the narcissi
