This month we present to you "Sounds Like Fall," the heart-child of singer-songwriter Joe Young. In his debut album The Wolf Is at the Door, Joe Young weaves songs that testify to his artistic talent and emotional depth. The music really does sound autumnal with sad, quiet and emotional folksongs. But this is not an any-man type of folk; I am reminded of Dylan, Willie Nelson, Jeff Buckley, or the other rare songwriters who put themselves into their music rather that just create it. Joe Young fully inhabits his songs in this unique way; there is no holding back in his expression, his soul is comfortable there. Personally, I find myself overwhelmed by the "terrible beauty" of Young’s music. I find not just an entertainment in these songs but a profound poetry capable of carrying me back to something I forgot, something that exists in me, in all things already.
This month we present three songs by Sounds Like Fall: Precious Morning, Silence Shines and St. Majella. I truly hope you enjoy the music as much as I do. —DG
Sounds Like Fall is the recorded word of singer-songwriter Joe Young. Joe cut his teeth with Ames, Iowa's excellent country-rock band Moonshine Radio. After the dissolution of the group he began writing and recording new songs and in July 2005 released his first album under the Sounds Like Fall moniker - The Wolf is at the Door. Since the release, Joe and his wife have had a child and moved towards the Missouri border.
