Three Poems by John Bryan

Writer's Block is all about Attitude

Just a line for tonight:
aaaaaaaaaa
Profess it in many people
An expression
As sincere.
I should
Release books of blank.
Title them with
Appropriate headings:
Not the clown's best material

You've been a wonderful audience. goodnight.

The Ballad of Human Condition Sung By The Poems That Didn't Work By Me

I Gallipoli Head

The battle of Lone Pine 1915
Our troops storming trenches
Shooting downwards
Explains the bullet's entry wound trajectory

It's amazing it has kept
This good for so long
Eighty odd years Aussie
Soldiers were terrible souvenir hunters

The pine box velvet lined
Custom designed
Its purpose to house
A memento incognito

Descendants of digger Avis
Surrender to local authorities
Out of deference
To Johnny Turk

II keen for a while

to brood some eggs
discussed names
and sexes amongst
relevant misgivings
all merely an idle thought
i assure you
belying a relentless logic
in the banality of cruelty

IV #

A minotaur
Extricates my
Ball
Of string from
Your labyrinth of plumbing.
Your
Abacus
, lubricated, slides again,
You have taught
To count
+ 1 more

V The narrow path

Between the Leopold and Loeb of us becoming
Head clubbing cavemen unable any longer
To treasure human virtues
Or becoming self absorbed
Sentencing ourselves
To life in prism.

VI The Pick Up in Cubist Form

Liquidlounge Bar taxi blueroom
carpet amber night
bloodshot bitter lipstickteeth
stairs stumble moths roadizzy
capital - hill bench flora
vampiric saliva noreturnaddress.

VII Clucky

is it not funny how liquid
goes in but at birth is
flesh and bone, knew at
the time if i took them out
they would'nt work, but ...
feed them to my chooks
eggs for breaky
fry, scramble, boil, poach
edibles for cruel and
unusuals
then rooster will mate
with chook
white croutons soaking up
your ova a batch
finally fertilized
perpetuates your cowardly
myth tarred and feathered
in goosebumps on
your drumstick legs
a fifth grade school project
concocted out of
butcher's spares
laid out beside me on the carpet:
vulva's name: Akala
vagina's: Arthur
uterus: Travis
fallopian: Troy
and not forgetting, little
ovary Warren
different spawn have hatched
responding in kind
i'm left with only a handful of incubates i stole
from you to do it all my own
once we tore up

VIII Gippsland Big Cats

Whilst we'll
Have to wait a
Little longer for the
First Fortean Petting Zoo

Kurt Engel
Has just blown
The head off an urban legend.

IX buying into Gonzalo Pizarro's chase for El Dorado

Stockmarket
The grey armour of any coin
With gold
As common
As scarred skin.
Such treasured words
Killing
, make a,
Rumours
And heresay
The same
As mythology:
The bull and the bear
Merge.
This dragon
Red
Tore out
My heart, black

X those pioneers of perfect slang

Moving the
Poet
Moving
Atop the mesa
Frontier goodbyes
The red skinned chagrin
His caravan
Of going, rounds
Up its buffalo bones
Tumbleweeds blow forward
Filling space

Let us wait a little longer

Until the habit of putting myself in other people is concluded.
Until my eyes abandon their own equations for your geometry.
Until the new lover is always epoch making epochs forever mating.
Until I stigmatize juices peculiar to you.
Until so on

And so on

Etc, etc.

...

.

John Bryan has been bought to you by sponsors such as The Hiss Quarterly, Mipoesias, Verse Libre Quarterly, My Favorite Bullet, the hold, Dead Drunk Dublin, Triplopia, thisisitmagazine, Outsider Ink, The Pedestal Magazine, Stylus Poetry Journal, retort magazine, Stirring, taint magazine, and Mad Hatter's Review. He was also 'Can O Spam' contest winner in Edifice Wrecked. He once went out drinking with Jonathan Penton and woke up the next day not remembering the night before... with only a bleeding arse and $10 dollars in his hand. Mr Penton later rang wanting his money back.
