Artist's commentary on "Mystery Babylon"
This collage is a modern day version of a work by Albrect Dürer representing a personal interpretation of chapter 17 of St. John's Revelation.
"…and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and bedecked with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her fornication; and on her forehead was written the name of a mystery: BABYLON THE GREAT, MOTHER OF ALL HARLOTS AND OF EARTH'S ABOMINATIONS." Revelations Ch.17, vs 3-5
On Pope Benedict XVI's mitre I have stuck the Roman motto VICARIUS FILII DEI (vicar of the son of God). There is great debate as to whether this motto has ever appeared on a Pope's mitre or if indeed it is a legitimate papal title. Anyhow, if one adds up the roman numerals it totals 666.
Mystery Babylon for me represents an amalgamation of the E.U., U.N., NATO and the Vatican; all being manipulated by the Bilderberg group et al.
Even the architecture of the parliament building in Strasburg is based on the Tower of Babel taken from the famous painting by Peter Brueghel.
On a lighter note one can see Jesus coming back on a cloud with power and great glory. Babylon the Great falls in one single hour. Yippee!
The dragon seen falling into the lake of oil is taken from a fresco in the Vatican "The Vision of the Cross" by Raphael. Emperor Constantine introduced the cross to the then-pagan Roman church on the eve of a military victory over Maxentius: a pivotal moment in the conversion of Rome to Christianity. St. John makes several references to the dragon that eventually passes its power to the Beast of the Apocalypse. The dragon is the symbol for Pagan Rome!
Could the beast with seven heads and ten horns be a symbol for a succession of empires: e.g. Ancient Babylon, Mede Persia and Greece, right up to the modern day Roman Empire? I have placed the Turkish flag as a saddle for the pope to sit on. Could the future admission of Turkey into the E.U. form an unstable marriage doomed to failure?
In the lower right hand corner above the empty can of Red Bull is a red bull! Taken from Crete mythology, it shows Europa about to mount Minos (Zeus disguising himself before raping her…). This is an official emblem of the E.U. A woman riding a red beast! To the right one can see another version that includes a dolphin representing "the many waters on which she sits".
Strangely, Pope Gregory XIII chose a dragon as his emblem! Fittingly it adorns both his tomb and a commemorative coin. The Gregorian calendar changed "the times and the laws" which again implicates them for having interfered with God's commandments. (Sunday is in fact the first day of the week; Saturday is the last...) The woman sitting on Gregory XIII's tomb is non other than Fides, the Catholic Church's own image of faith, complete with a golden cup in her hand!
In the lower left hand corner the founding members of the Bilderberg group (Henry Kissinger, Denis Healey, Prince Bernard of Holland, Otto von Ameringen and Joseph Retinger) mourn the death of their little scheme: Babylon the Great is fallen! Other participants of this group include Tony Blair, Stephen Harper, Queen Beatrix, Prince Charles, Kenneth Clarke, David Rockefeller, top executives from the biggest multinationals and chief editors of major newspapers…even though they never make reference to Bilderberg meetings...
