To Jane Butkin Roth's previous piece
Fine Lines
I like a man
who keeps himself in shape...
but my man watched his fat content
a little too closely to be sexy.
I like practicality...
so I could forgive this man
who never met me at an airplane
once he explained
his time-saving theories.
I want security...
so I could appreciate the man
who saves for a future
(though his insisting on my
paying my own way
to the ballet, the opera, dinner--
even with his "let's be equal partners" rationale--
seemed extreme)
a man
who's not afraid to get close to children...
I like that in a man--
but the way he held and kissed his daughter--that's
one line too many crossed
not so fine
