Honk If You're My Daddy
The thing is--
I couldn't be sure,
being that you never waved or nothin'
But I remember after you died
I used to see you
on the road
coming from the opposite direction
Was pretty sure it was you--
but you passed so quick,
it's something I kept to myself
these twenty-five years
'til this Thanksgiving
sitting around the table with
Cousin Richard, he tells me that
he often sees his Dad driving, so now
I'm wondering if you're on the same road
meeting up somewhere, maybe at the
bar just 'round some corner
buying Uncle Marshall a couple of beers
and betting on some football game.
