station wagon
G I with duffel bag in back
driver picked up all hitchhikers
stopped I got in up front
2 teen girls in the middle
giving a young guy a couple soapers
a little later his head fell back
they took his cash from his pocket
for not sharing willingly
refusing to kick-in for gas---
the driver detoured into a roadside rest
the girls pushed the drugged body 
out the door at a slow speed
rolled into the grass
laughing as the car cruised out
back on route
Next stop the G I jumped out the back
waved thanks
I stayed up front
offering the few dollars from my jeans pocket
they all happily refused
ignorant
about the secret hundred
in my boot---
