Novel-In-Progress
You love the yarn, of course
It's silky
It's rough
It's dark-sparkly
It's maybe too many things
And it's tied into knots
upon knots
upon knots
It came that way
Twisted-looking as a brain.
It'd be no problem, of course
But you wanna make a sweater out of it -
One that someone might actually wear
You unknot, but as you knit, it knots
You try knitting in the knots
And then try to unknot
But that leaves the yarn un-taught
So you unknit.
You cast it into the fireplace
But it only sizzles
Mockingly
That damn good yarn.
I'm knitting with it
Even as I compose
This black and yellow
Scarf
