Prey Tell
The feeble rays of fading light
Through canopy are banned from sight.
And they that slither, crawl and prowl
Emerge from lairs with hungry jowl.
Your sweaty stench and liquid heat
Conspire to your stealth defeat.
Relentlessly your life they stalk
No matter where you climb or walk.
From "lower species," earn respect
By flaunting your vast intellect?
But to nocturnals, you are just
The latest meal for which they lust.
Rejoice in passage of the day?
How foolish when you are the prey!
