The Great Canberra fires of 18 / 01 / 03
A state of emergency declared
Radio broadcasts
' our capital is under seige '
Blinks on and off with sirens
The suburbs of Duffy
And Chapman alight
Two people already dead
Police are expecting looters
And cruise for arsonists
Weetangera on high alert
You don't want to be alone
In the distance I hear the pop
Of an exploding petrol station
Get on my bike
Ride through empty roads
Onto smoky paths
In amusingly green parks
Toward an angry hive of helicopters
Towards a black sky
Which you lie underneath
Where the heat indulgent
In it's expression
ABRAXAS
ASTOROTH
BAAL
