Just Some Prophet

"You can beat up a monkey in a parking lot
but you can't change the monkey's programming,"
he said, divine emissary, a broken light bulb
with a working light bulb heart,
down from the mountain
with a helix of new Commandments
hardwired into every cell,
to consecrate his basest humors.
From inside the halogen safety
of our linoleum calf
we order coffee and donuts
missing a miracle unfold
as a bard tired from trying
to translate his long winded Lord
beats off bleach
onto a small patch of earth now
and forever clean of sin.
