The Scar

Come what may
I shall always have this:
My foot poised over the abyss.

It shall steady me
As a solemn flame
Sears the fear of God

Within.
I shall never advance too far
Without this shadowy retreat.

Lest I forget
And lose the scar
In a heartbeat.
