I read the card a loud
my friend says
you gotta put that away
never read it again
it's the kinda thing 
that's designed to fuck you up

the cursive lies
slanting away from my heart
closing the card
I want to believe in
I put it back in the envelope
with its red heart drawn
by that same lying hand
I seal it with tape
I want to burn it
but I can't make the flame
touch the paper
so I place it in
some forgettable place
a layaway plan for fire
