Sterling
I took the photographs on two different days, following the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling. The location is the Triple S Food Mart, where the shooting took place. Triple S became a locus of protest and pilgrimage during the weeks that followed—a mural of Alton Sterling now adorns the facade of the building. All of the images were shot using black and white film.
Matthew Landers obtained his Ph.D. in English Literature from Louisiana State University in 2009. Currently, he works as an associate professor of Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico, where he teaches a wide variety of courses, including portrait photography. He has been fortunate enough to have his images shown in art galleries in Spain, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Matthew's family resides in the greater Baton Rouge area; he still considers the region his home.
