Keep them employed, well-fed.
Bleed the state’s resources dry
for the sustenance of its pawns.
 
Never mind sufficient sleep.
The workers of the world zombified
under drawn-out waking hours 
since Industrial Revolution's dawn.
So let the trespassers
keep trespassing;
the robbers 
keep robbing;
the killers . . .
 
At times, punish the mightiest —
the tyrants, mass murderers,
pastors, plunderers —
to give a semblance
of fairness.
 
Keep them employed:
the village watchmen,
the police, the defenders,
the prosecutors, the judges,
the prison guards, the chaplains . . .
 
here where the only actions
committed with passion are crimes,
and each door opens into nothing
but a gaping wound.
