I’m considering the fact that maybe Facundo and I should’ve switched roles in this review, as Crockford’s book sounds more of a familiar base than I originally foresaw. There’s an inmate uprising at a St. Louis detention center in February, prisoners citing lack of time outside their cells/access to phones and wi-fi as a catalyst for acts of vandalism and assault.

I almost forgot about Yukio Mishima’s nationalist views, his depiction of hara-kiri in the b&w film ‘Patriotism’, and it takes Newamba’s first-hand account of adolescent gangs in Tokyo-riding around on expensive motorcycles with baseball bats and other blunt objects, haunting foreigners and demanding their immediate exit from the country, to bring me back to Earth and the current state of human relations, to solidify Eastern ties between feudalism and nationalism; to stand at the foot of an unapproachable ladder, each rung strapped together by the hierarchy of peasant to samurai to feudal lord. I'm eventually deposited at the pillars of consumerism with an insurmountable disadvantage for what waits beyond empty pockets/ideals. We live in the  Edo period and beyond, Utagawa Kuniyoshi and his disciples clearly depicting myths from the past with the precision of 1 sword too many.
