Kasia meanwhile pursued publicly-available documentary evidence. For starters, Katie’s father’s LinkedIn confirms that he worked at a university in their home state, from the year before Katie was born to her early teenage years, and then from there at another US college in another state until the year of her graduation. The direct transition between the two jobs without an interlude in Poland is confirmed by a university press release, and the continuity of his work there during Katie’s early youth is confirmed by the university website. He did take a short language and literature course at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków fifteen years before she was born—odd for a native speaker. US residency records show them living continuously in their home state until Katie was aged at least eight (the age at which she claims she left Poland for the USA). The class notes of his undergraduate university (like an online yearbook, giving a summary of where the students ended up in life) include a humorous quote from his wife, Katie’s mother: she frequently reminds her husband and their “daughter Katherine” (no mention of another sister) that, having moved to the South for this second job, they are “[natives of their home state] living abroad.”

This, already, was something of a relief. We weren’t mad.
